Seafair started this last weekend with the annual kick off festival at Westlake Park. This Seattle tradition is a summer festival that runs from June 15th to August 3rd. Covering everything from marathons to boat races, parades and air shows, Seafair is a wonderful celebration of Northwest and regional events. This weekend we welcome the Rock and Roll marathoners, next week the Seafair Pirates will land on Alki Beach in West Seattle. If you’re visiting in July, we have the annual 4th of July celebration, Seafair triathalon, torchlight parade, and the ending with the fleet week parade of ships. The first weekend of August will be a hydro-celebration on Lake Washington with boat races, US Navy Blue Angels, food booths and beer gardens.
Seafair is June 15-August 3, 2014. Check out details here for a full list of events.
We love our neighborhood and being in Pike Place Market, but it’s fun to get out and enjoy another great water view in Seattle. Lake Union is located just 10 minutes from Inn at the Market and offers more than just a beautiful view. Argosy Cruises does a wonderful Lakes Cruise that takes you from Lake Union into Lake Washington. Ride the Ducks is a fun way to explore Seattle where you get to see the sites on land, and then a fun ride on Lake Union on their amphibious buses! If you’re looking for a little adventure, at the Northwest Outdoor Center you can rent kayaks or canoes and explore the Lake while getting in a work out. A favorite spot for locals is Gas Works Park, a great picnic/play area with some industrial charm. If you’re looking for dining in the area, the South Lake Union neighborhood has some great places to eat. Click here for more info including a great interactive map of the area.

This morning the Seattle Art Museum hosted a ribbon cutting for their newest addition to the Olympic Sculpture Park. “Echo“, a magnificent piece of art from sculptor Jaume Plensa, comes to Seattle after a stint at the Madison Square Park Conservancy in New York. Echo is a reference to Greek mythology and more information on the origin of the piece can be found here. The Olympic Sculpture Park is about a 10 minute walk from the Inn at the Market, located on the north end of the Seattle Waterfront. The park offers visitors a place to walk, ride, contemplate, explore and appreciate art in a beautiful outdoor space. We are lucky to have such a space in our great city!
